The Tong-Tong Music Festival
The Tong-tong Music Festival is a celebration of Madurese culture, showcasing traditional tong-tong music, which was originally used to wake people up for sahur during Ramadan. In the past, the instruments were simple, made from bamboo, but today, they have evolved with a variety of instruments. Each music group consists of around 30 drummers who parade a beautifully decorated cart adorned with lights, creating a stunning sight, especially at night.
With the theme "Through Tong-tong Music, Let's Preserve the Traditional Culture of Madura," this festival features tong-tong music groups from across Madura, following a designated route. The festival also includes judging based on musical arrangements, performance, and decoration, with the overall winner determined by the highest score. Tong-tong music combines percussion elements with beautiful decoration, playing classic Madurese songs.
