How to Get to Lake Toba

By Air:

This airport serves direct flights from major cities such as Jakarta and Medan. From the airport, you can continue your journey by road, which takes approximately 1.5 hours to reach the Lake Toba area.

By Land:
If you're traveling from Medan, you can use a private vehicle, bus, or travel service to reach Parapat, one of the main gateways to Lake Toba. The land journey from Medan to Parapat takes about 4-5 hours along winding roads, but you will be rewarded with stunning views throughout the trip.

Transportation Around Lake Toba

To explore the Lake Toba area, visitors have various practical and flexible transportation options. Around the lake, you can use local public transport (angkot) or local taxis for short trips. For more freedom, you can also rent vehicles such as cars or motorcycles, allowing for a more comfortable exploration of the area. If your main destination is Samosir Island, you can take a ferry from Parapat, which takes about 30-40 minutes. Upon arrival in Samosir, you can use motorcycle taxis (ojek) or rent vehicles to reach tourist villages renowned for their rich culture and history, such as Tomok and Ambarita.
