The Sailendra dynasty, which was in power at that time, built the largest Buddhist monument in the world between 780 and 840 AD, now known as Borobudur Temple. This monument was discovered by British soldiers in 1814 under the leadership of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles. The entire area of the temple was successfully cleared in 1835. Borobudur Temple has the most comprehensive and abundant collection of Buddhist reliefs in the world. On February 11, 2022, the government officially inaugurated Borobudur Temple's status as a place of worship for Buddhists in Indonesia and around the world.
