Saman Dance

Saman Dance
Saman Dance is one of the traditional dances of Aceh, originating from the Gayo ethnic group. This dance was created by Syekh Saman, a revered Islamic scholar who integrated elements of Islamic preaching into the art form. Saman Dance is typically performed in groups, involving male or female dancers seated in a straight line.

In 2011, Saman Dance was recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding, emphasizing the importance of preserving this dance as part of Indonesia's cultural identity.
