Sipiso-piso Waterfall is one of the tallest waterfalls in Indonesia, located in Karo Regency, North Sumatra. The waterfall has a height of about 120 meters, surrounded by green hills, and offers breathtaking natural views with water cascading down from a steep cliff. The name "Sipiso-piso" comes from the word "piso," which means knife in the Batak language, a name given to describe the sharp and powerful flow of the water. This location also offers a strategic spot to enjoy the beautiful panorama of Lake Toba from a distance.
How to Reach Sipiso-piso Waterfall
By Air: The nearest airport is Silangit International Airport (Sisingamangaraja XII), which serves flights from major cities such as Jakarta and Medan. From the airport, it takes about 3-4 hours by car to reach Sipiso-piso.
By Land: From Medan, the capital of North Sumatra, travelers can take a private vehicle, bus, or travel service to Merek District in Karo Regency, where Sipiso-piso Waterfall is located. The journey takes about 2.5 to 3 hours, passing through routes offering scenic views of hills and traditional villages.
Access to Sipiso-piso Waterfall Upon arrival at the Sipiso-piso Waterfall area, you can walk down the stairs available to approach the waterfall. The stairs are quite long and challenging, but the journey is well worth it with spectacular views at the base of the waterfall. If you wish to explore the surrounding area, you can hire a motorcycle taxi (ojek) from the parking area. For those with private vehicles, there are sufficient parking facilities available. In addition, there are several small stalls offering food and drinks.
